Class notes 9/28/2010

Lit 285
-read chapter 7 of Myth and reality and blog about it (read Carrie and corrines blog)
-write five sentence pertaining to each chapter of The Metamorphoses of Ovid
-in addition keep track of all the changes and think about the reasons why the happen
-embellish blog s with pictures Ovid’s Metamorphoses related to
-look at Dustin’s blog to get an idea of sentences and blogging styles
-go home and find a Greek to roman transfigures

-Hubris means pride
-etiology is an explanation of why thing are

Greek and Roman gods and goddesses is a good hand book to explain all of them
-Demeter becomes Ceres

-Chthonic means over related to the world (know for test)

Sparogmos-refers to an ancient ritual in which a living animal, or sometimes even a human being, would be sacrificed by being dismembered

Actean had horns grow because of looking at Daphne while she was bathing.

Theos-means god

Apollo & Daphne------daughter of Penus is turned into an oak tree by her father to have protection from Apollo’s love. Her leaves are placed on heads for rulers.
+++look up Daphne or Metamorphosis by Norman O’Brown.  Idea of transformation (Daphne to a tree and the tree to have its leaves placed on the head of man.)
