Ovid's Metamorphoses Ch 1-5

"Down to the present day May-trees decked with flowers and ribbons are set up on May Day in every village and hamlet of gay Provence.  Under them the young folk make merry and the old folk rest.  In all these cases, apparently, the custom is or was to bring in a new May-tree each year."

Chapter One
Creation- The start of all and the beginning of the ends.
The Four Ages- Made up of the recession of life from Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Iron.
The Flood-Jove blanketed the world with water and cleansed all that existed.
Apollo & Daphne-Tragic love story of a God that falls in love. Object of his desire turns into a laurel tree.
Io & Jove- A God falling in love with someone that does not desire him. He then shows his power by blanketing the world in darkness to stop her.

Chapter Two

Phaethon-He took his father's, Apollo, chariot for a joy ride and ended up starting a fire over mother earth.

Callisto- Jove fell in love with her and his wife Juno was jealous and turned Callisto into a bear.

Coronis, the Raven, the Crow, Nyctimene- Spys, tattle tails, and false loyalties

Ocyrhoe- was Chiron's daughter born of a water nymph, and she had the gift of prophecy.

Europa & Jove- Jove made himself a great white bull and leeward Europa out into the sea and took her against her will.

Chapter Three

Cadmus-Slade a snake and spread his teeth in the ground. The heads of Thebes were created because of this.
Actaeon-Was turned into a deer and killed by his own hounds seeing Diana naked.
Semele- Was Joves lover and was killed after seeing him in his true Godly form.

Narcissus & Echo-Echo was in love with Narcissus but he did not love her back. She pined away until all that was left was her voice and she could only answer by repeating.

Pentheus- Was riped apart by his own mother and sisters.

Chapter Four
The Daughters of Minyas- Ditrusted Bacchus' ruling and were story tellers.
Pyramus & Thisbe- Mythical Romeo and Juliet
Salmacis & Hermaphroditus- Salmacis fell in love with Hermaphroditus and wrapped herself around him. They became half-man and half-women.
Arthamas & Ino- Mythical domestic violence that resulted in one child being killed and a mother fleeing with the other.
Perseus & Andromeda-Perseus killed the sea monster and offered sacrifices on an alter.

Chapter Five
Perseus & Phineus-Two brothers that fought over one female.
Minerva, the Muses, Pegasus-sisters who inspired song, poetry, drama, and other art forms showed Minerva the spring that was formed from Pegasus' hoof.
Ceres & Proserpina- Mother wanted to get her daughter back that was trapped in the underworld because of eating pomegranate seeds.
Arethuse & Alpeus-Arethuse became a river after she was chased by Alpeus. She began to sweat and turned into the river.
Triptolemus & Lyncus-Lyncus tried to kill triptolemus to take credit for the making of civilization.
